The actors, director and accompanists are an important part of our show, but they’re only one part. There’s so much more that goes on behind the scenes for each of our productions. Our people do their jobs so well and yet remain unseen. Learn more about what goes on backstage with our other crew.
Maren Hansen – Musical Director
Maren is a professional singer and vocal coach who finds great fulfillment in working alongside other dedicated creators to make art. She also has a deep love for new works, arts education, and art in non-traditional spaces. She is currently studying choral music education at the University of Utah. When she isn’t singing or working on musical or theatrical projects, Maren enjoys baking and reading. Other recent credits include “The Prince’s New Pet” with Utah Story Center, “Mad Libs Live!” and “Pride and Prejudice” at Creekside Theatre Festival, and “Romeo and Juliet: Love is a Battlefield” at Maeser Preparatory Academy.
Mark Chamberlin – Stage Manager
Returning to the theatre after almost a decade, Mark is thrilled to be one of two SM for this comical and charming show. As an audience, he hopes that you enjoy what the cast and crew have so passionately created for you tonight. Shout out to everyone for being so patient and welcoming, as this is Mark’s first ever experience at The Desert Star!
Brytan Todd – Sound Design
Brytan is thrilled to be running tech for her 6th Playhouse show at Desert Star. She is currently studying at BYU, and has a deep love for musical theater. She has also loved performing in and costuming the last five Desert Star Youth Theater productions, with her favorite role being Veronica in Heathers. She’d like to thank Liz, Mike, and her family for all their support and encouragement. Enjoy the show!
Derek Walden – Light Design
Derek is the Technical Director for CenterPoint Legacy Theatre, and a long time friend and colleague of Liz Christensen. He has a BA in Theater Arts from Weber State University and has been working in the Utah Theater Community for many years.
Marley Sage Gable – Stage Manager
Marley Sage Gable is enchanted to be making his debut with Desert Star, after a decade away from technical stagecraft at the University of Utah. The multi-faceted challenges of balancing urban planning work, producing spectacular REFUGE Salt Lake live events, and everyday life prepared him for the meticulous world of stage management.
Chelsea McGee – Light/Sound Tech
Chelsea has been involved in theatre since her oldest daughter started performing in 2014. This is the first time she’s done anything with Desert Star Playhouse having previously helped a bit behind the scenes with the Desert Star Youth Theatre, and she is loving the challenge. She is heavily involved with the theatre arts in West Jordan where she serves as chair of the West Jordan Youth Theatre. Shoutout to her husband for being the “best” house manager, her son for holding down the fort at home and her girls who make working here Fun For The Whole Family! Enjoy the show!
Maeson Busk – Light Design
This is Maeson’s 11th production at the Desert Star, and his 7th show running lights and sound. He is currently studying Musical Theatre at UVU and loves his time spent working at the theatre. He’d like to give a special thanks to Mike and Scott for their trust, and to his parents and friends for their constant support! Enjoy the show!
